At Home

Heating your home with wood is inexpensive and a sustainable source of energy. Here at Don’t Move Firewood, we support the use of wood to heat your primary residence, or your cabin in the woods, or… wherever you may want to build a fire. But if your firewood is cut from far away-  general rule of thumb is 50 miles, although closer is better- then you are putting your property and landscape at risk. Instead, buy locally, and keep your trees safe from pests.

A lot of people choose to buy wood by the cord when it’s used for home heating. Take responsibility for the health of your trees- ask your firewood dealer where your cord is coming from. If it is from your same county, or across town, then you are burning safer. If it is from across county or state lines, or more than 50 miles away, you might be spreading pests or even violating local laws. In some areas, transporting firewood across jurisdictions can carry hefty fines.
